Savings Sheet

One of the big questions people have when they decide to coupon or not is Will the savings be worth my time? I downloaded an excel spreadsheet to keep track. Go here if you would like to keep track of your savings: http://www.couponing101.com/2010/12/free-2011-grocery-and-coupon-savings-spreadsheet.html

I have saved $727 so far this year so I think it is worth my time.

Cookies

I started following another blog recently. http://thekrazycouponlady.com/ Today on facebook she posted a recipe for cookies. Usually I would ignore it and go find my bag of chips ahoy. But at the same time I was reading this Gracie kept telling me she was bored. So I said ok lets try it. I looked at the ingredients and to my surprise I had every single one. I never would have had brown sugar or baking soda in my pantry before I started couponing. Even when I was buying them I couldn't figure out why. I never bake. But when you are getting the stuff for free or for 25 cents why not? I figured if I never used the stuff it would be something else Gracie could bring to school on Fridays for Spirit Shirt Day. (In order to wear their shorts they ahve to bring in food for the food bank)

My point is that I have learned that couponing allows me to purchase extra items and to keep my house full of food. It is very nice to open my pantry and know that we can find something to eat at all times. Since I started couponing it stays stocked. No my stockpile will never be as big as the people on TV because Rickie would probably divorce me. But I like knowing that we always have food. Now if only I can save enough to retire.....................

P.S. I added some pictures of the baking to the other blog of the kids. Click on pictures under links to see them.

Coupon Train

This is how it works. You can collect coupons from numerous places. The Sunday paper is the most obvious but there is a ton on the internet also. Magazines often have some and products sometimes include coupons. This is how we will do it.
1) We will each start with 20 coupons. Collect them from this weeks paper or the internet.
2) We will each mail them to our assigned person.
3) When you receive your envelope take out any that you can use and any coupons that expired.
4) Replace with any new coupons you have found. Send along the ones you don’t want. Try to keep the number of coupons between 15 -20. You might see some of the same coupons but we will keep sending them until we either find a use for them or they expire.
5) Mail to your person.
If we each keep up with the mailing we will collect a lot of coupons.

Right now our train has 7 people. Let me know if you would like to join us.

Swagbucks

If you have not signed up for swagbucks yet do it now. Swagbucks is a search engine that rewards you for searching the internet. Since I joined in March of 2010 I have earned $30 in Amazon gift cards and $50 in Starbucks gift cards. All for free. Click on the box next to this and check it out.

My Couponing Story

Why Coupon?

I began looking into couponing about a year ago. I started reading blogs and discovering ways to stretch my grocery budget. I found this to be extremely easy and a bit fun. (Of course Rickie thinks I need a new hobby but he doesn't seem to mind the savings.) There are so many wonderful bloggers who list the sales and the locations for the coupons that it doesn't take me a lot of time. These bloggers also seem to spend less than me but I am proud of what I have accomplished so far. So I don't suggest anyone use my blog as their only resource but heres a place to start.

Why am I posting all of this?

With every one I know trying to find ways to save money I find myself sharing my couponing trips. Of course that leads to many questions so I thought that this would be a way for my friends to see how I do it. Of course this means that I am giving you my secret way of cheating. Although I don't think the bloggers mind me sending more people their way.

I have a long way to go and a lot more to learn but in a year I have saved over a $1000 and thats a nice place to start.
